Self Isolation : Day # 6

2009 Sesti Brunello di Montalcino

Giuseppe Sesti listens to the stars for guidance while tending to his vines and wines, only carrying out certain vineyard and winery tasks during specific phases of the moon. The ex-astronomer presides over his hilltop estate in Tuscany with the quirky charm that only a winemaker can have and follows the Biodynamic principles of holistic farming and winemaking. If the tides are influenced by the moon why shouldn’t wine be as well?

The 2009 is in a perfect place right now, especially when paired with Italian beef short rib, still full-bodied and richly textured but with more approachable tannins than upon release. Classic notes of red and black fruits, Morello cherry, balsamic, and dried herbs stand out over a medley of red and black fruits, leather, and oak spice.
