Self Isolation : Day # 8
Cain Vineyard & Winery ‘Cuvée NV5’
Cain Vineyard & Winery is known in Napa for their Bordeaux-style blends using the five ‘noble’ grapes of that storied French region. While the Cain ‘Five’ is the top-of-the-line bottling from the estate, their non-vintage ‘Cuvée’ takes the art of blending to another level. A blend of grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot) as well as vintages (2004 & 2005), this bottling offers generous flavors of black cherry, tart plum, and cassis over soft, fading tannins. This once full-bodied wine has aged into a more medium-bodied red, with thinning fruit exposing the still-lively acidity on the finish. A fine wine that has seen better days. Better late than never, right?
