Self Isolation : Day # 34

1995 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon

Twenty-five years looks good on this Napa Cab. I’ve continually been impressed with the wines of Far Niente. Stylistically this could not be from anywhere but California, but it is well made, with well-integrated oak and a more old-world structure that gives life to the ripe, powerful fruit. Aromas of soft, ripe red fruits are enhanced by wisps of fruit leather, cocoa nib, and earth leap from the glass and become more expressive after about 15 minutes. On the palate, a plethora of red and black fruits, dried berries, cedar, mushroom, and leather are effortlessly supported by ripe, mellow tannins and just the right amount of acidity that politely demands you take another sip. Grace notes of dried herbs and toasted baking spices are a welcome addition and complete the picture.
