Self Isolation : Day # 38
Famiglia Carafoli Lambrusco di Modena
Lambrusco gets a bad wrap thanks to the large-scale production of sweet, soulless fizz that when served “on ice, it’s nice!” However there are a number of great, quality producers of this gastronomic delight. This is one of those wines that achieves greatness through simplicity rather than complexity. Sometimes the best wine is the one you don’t have to think about! Aromatic, with notes of juicy red fruits, zesty citrus, and fragrant herbs it is low in alcohol, this one clocked in at just 8.5% ABV, so you can feel free to pour with reckless abandon. Hell, open a another bottle! The palate is juicy, with flavors of ripe alpine strawberry, candied raspberry, and rosemary. The slight residual sugar is perfectly balanced with the mouthwatering acidity and works wonders to calm spicy, salty foods while the slight fizz keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying. Cured meats, anyone?
