Self Isolation : Day # 20

With twenty consecutive days spent at home with very limited time outside save for the occasional short walk, conventional definitions of days and time have started to fade. So, for the twenty-day dinner I made breakfast and ended up revisiting a Cabernet-based blend from Adobe Road Winery, where I used to work, in Sonoma County’s newly created Petuluma Gap A.V.A. 2013 was probably the greatest vintage so far this century and the ideal conditions during summer and fall show in the generosity of ripe fruit in the glass.

The 2013 Apex is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Syrah (28%), Grenache (26%), and Petit Verdot (4%). Rich, ripe, and powerful it is redolent of black fruit, red berries, and cassis with leather, baking spices and hints of fresh mushroom playing supporting roles. Weighty tannins have softened with age and are joined by mouthwatering acidity to form a well-balanced backbone to this luscious red blend.
