Self Isolation : Day # 13

2011 Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

One of the first appellations designated under the modern A.O.P. system, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the only appellation for wine in the world to expressly prohibit U.F.O. landings. Benefitting from a warm, Mediterranean climate and fully embracing the art of blending (save for a few producers and special bottlings) it is home to Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre (GSM), and friends - there are between 13 and 18 permitted grape varieties depending on how you count.

This 9-year-old example comes from Domaine du Grand Tinel and is drinking beautifully. Medium-plus in body, with aromas of cassis, plum, Bing cherry, roasted meat, and savory floral accents. On the palate flavors of herb-crusted raisins, stewed black fruit and cherry are lifted by medium-plus acidity and tannins perfectly mellowed by time.
